QUESTION:
We do a joint fundraiser with our school.
Once the fundraiser is over we grant the money to the ASB through the
district stating how the money is to be allocated, i.e. $3000 assemblies,
$5200 field trips (26 teachers x $200 each) etc. We are being told that we
cannot specify how the money granted to the ASB is to be spent. Is this
correct?
ANSWER:
ASBs and PTAs may work together, but the
PTA must take care to properly document the nature of the activities and how
the funds will be handled in a contract with the ASB. Since the funds belong to the PTA and the PTA
is granting the money to the ASB, the PTA can dictate how the money should be
handled. You can use the restricted
donation form found in Money Matters.
